The DIAGNOdent system uses a handheld laser which is tuned to a specific frequency, causing tooth decay to become illuminated. Dr. Quigless will shine this laser on your teeth. If any cavities are detected, they will be picked up by the laser’s handpiece as the fluorescent light rebounds off of the tooth.
DIAGNOdent allows Dr. Quigless to thoroughly examine your entire tooth, including areas which are not easily viewed by traditional diagnostic tools. Clinical studies have demonstrated that DIAGNOdent is significantly more effective than x-rays in the detection of cavities, particularly in teeth with decay that is entirely below the surface. Under these conditions, DIAGNOdent has proven to be twice as effective as alternative cavity detection methods.
